The honest answer

How much do braces cost for my child?

This question can only be answered properly once we’ve seen your child’s teeth. The jaw is a complex system: misalignments that look harmless can be complicated to treat — and, conversely, cases that seem severe can sometimes be solved surprisingly easily.

Basically, there are two routes — and we’ll take either of them with you. Which one is open to you is decided by the diagnosis, or more precisely: the IOTN grade. We determine it at the free consultation.

  • The consultation is free of charge and without obligation
  • We determine whether free braces are possible
  • You receive an honest recommendation — including all the alternatives
  • You decide at your own pace, even later at home
  • Appointments from Monday to Friday
The two routes

Free braces or private — what’s possible for your child

The difference isn’t in the quality of our work, but in the diagnosis and the method. Both routes lead to straight teeth.

Free braces — health insurance pays

  • Nothing to pay: no co-payment, no excess
  • For children and teens up to 18
  • Only for severe malocclusion: IOTN 4 and 5
  • Fixed braces with brackets
  • For younger children: removable braces
  • Visible in everyday life; oral hygiene needs more care

Private — invisible braces

  • Suitable for every malocclusion: IOTN 1 to 5
  • Practically invisible — a non-issue at school
  • Removable for eating and brushing teeth
  • No restrictions on sport, music and free time
  • Result visible in advance in a 3D simulation
  • Interest-free instalments, so it stays affordable for parents
IOTN

What decides which route is open to you

IOTN stands for Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need — the international scale of treatment need. It ranges from 1 to 5 and isn’t something you can assess yourself.

IOTN 1 to 3

Mild to moderate malocclusion. Free braces aren’t possible here — but treatment still is, with any method. In these cases, many health insurance funds pay a contribution towards the costs.

IOTN 4 and 5

Severe malocclusion. Up to the 18th birthday, there is an entitlement to free braces — health insurance covers the treatment in full.

Assessment at our practice

We determine the IOTN grade at the free consultation. Separate approval from the health insurance fund isn’t needed for this — just bring the e-card.

Affordable for families

How we make private treatment affordable

Money shouldn’t be the reason it doesn’t happen. That’s why we make it as easy as possible for families — with a binding fixed price that you receive at the very first consultation, and payment in instalments with no interest.

And no matter how long treatment takes, or how many aligners, brackets or archwires your child ultimately needs: the price fixed at the start of treatment will not be increased afterwards.

  • Binding fixed price at the very first consultation
  • Interest-free instalments over up to 36 months
  • Choose your own term — from 6 to 36 months
  • Discount for upfront payment
  • Help with submitting claims to your insurance
  • No hidden costs, no additional charges

Frequently asked questions

What parents want to know about costs

You’ll get the most important answer from us at the practice: come to the free consultation and we’ll tell you exactly what’s possible for your child.

That depends on the type and degree of the malocclusion — and on which method you choose. For severe malocclusion (IOTN 4 or 5), health insurance covers the treatment in full up to 18. In all other cases, you receive a binding fixed price at the first consultation, which we go through together. We clarify both at the free consultation.

When treatment begins before the 18th birthday and there is severe malocclusion of grade IOTN 4 or 5. Treatment is then free of charge with no co-payment. All about free braces

Then we treat privately — with every method available, from fixed braces to invisible braces for IOTN 1 to 5. To keep it affordable for families, there is a fixed price and interest-free instalments over up to 36 months. Many health insurance funds also pay contributions.

No. No matter how long treatment takes and how many aligners, brackets or archwires your child ultimately needs: the price fixed at the start of treatment will not be increased afterwards.

At the start, you only pay the material costs as a deposit; you split the rest into up to 36 interest-free monthly instalments — you’re free to choose the number of instalments, from 6 to 36 months. If you pay the full amount at the start of treatment, you get an upfront payment discount.

If your child is eligible for free braces, the insurance fund covers the entire treatment. If not, many insurance funds still pay a contribution towards the costs. We help you with all questions about submitting the treatment and cost plan to your insurance.

Yes. In the annual employee tax assessment (Lohnsteuerausgleich), all payments made for braces in the previous year can be claimed as “extraordinary expenses” (außergewöhnliche Belastungen). Depending on your income, you’ll get part of the costs back this way.

Yes. If it turns out during treatment that a more extensive option would be a better fit, we fairly charge just the difference — and nothing you’ve already paid is lost.

We offer consultation appointments from Monday to Friday and make a point of keeping enough appointments free. The best thing is to book straight away online using the booking form on this page, or call us on 01 358 31 77.
