The right age
To find out whether your child needs orthodontic treatment, we recommend annual check-ups from the age of 6. This way we start treatment at the right time and can often prevent surgery.

Treatment with baby teeth and mixed teeth
In certain cases we start orthodontic treatment while a child still has baby teeth or mixed teeth (when baby teeth fall out and the permanent teeth come through). In this age group, the aim of treatment is usually to correct a misaligned jaw. If this isn’t done during this phase, the misalignment can often only be corrected surgically later on. We can use the new treatment with invisible aligners for children as early treatment for young patients aged between 6 and 10.

We recommend annual check-ups from the age of 6. This way we spot misalignments early, start at the right time and can often prevent surgery in adulthood.
Never too young for a check-up. Whether treatment is needed depends on the findings — not on age. With younger children we work with removable braces that guide jaw growth. Fixed braces or invisible aligners only come into question later.
Only very rarely. A misalignment usually becomes more established as the jaw grows. The earlier we see it, the more treatment options there are and the shorter the treatment will be.
Yes. What matters is that treatment starts before the 18th birthday and that there is a severe misalignment (IOTN 4 or 5). For younger children, treatment covered by public health insurance is carried out with removable braces. All about free braces
